What is a teeth scan?
Intraoral scanning is one of the latest technological advances in dentistry. This is a state-of-the-art method which produces a fully virtual diagnostic model - a digital impression. Scanning replaces the traditional way of taking impressions from the patient - biting into a plastic impression material - which dramatically increases the comfort of the experience. During scanning, a full-colour, high-resolution digital image is obtained in real time. The digital format of the examination result allows doctors to perform an extremely accurate analysis, plan appropriate treatment, and make the scans immediately available for consultation with other specialists.
When to get a teeth scan?
The great precision of the resulting image means that the use of scanning is not limited to simply replacing classic impressions. Thanks to the scan, it is possible to see, among other things, the anatomical structure of the teeth, the gums, the shape of the teeth, the extent of cavities or malocclusion. Accurate planning of orthodontic treatment based on digital models may head towards the use of traditional braces as well as orthodontic systems based on clear aligners. Scanning will be helpful in the following cases:
Intraoral scanning is also useful after treatment has been completed, as it provides a simple and accurate way of reviewing and monitoring the results.
How to prepare for the examination?
How do you prepare for a dental scan? Here are a few important tips. Take care of your oral hygiene before the examination - we have disposable toothbrushes for patients in our laboratory. The day before and on the day of the examination, it is a good idea to apply moisturising lipstick. You need to remove any jewellery (piercing) from around the mouth. Active herpes, aphthae and inflammation of the corners of the mouth are contraindications to the examination. Bacterial infections can easily occur. If you have any of these conditions, you should wait until you are completely cured. The examination itself does not require you to follow detailed procedures. The most important thing is a positive attitude and a good mood, which will certainly be taken care of by the caring and professional Diagdent staff.
What a teeth scan looks like?
The dental intraoral scanner works by taking a very large number of images in a very short period of time (several dozen shots per minute) with a lens located on the tip of the device inserted into the patient's mouth. The image from the lens is processed by sophisticated software, providing an extremely precise virtual model in real time. The examination lasts approximately 20 to 30 minutes and the technician, using the preview on the screen, is able to immediately verify the image and correct it if necessary. Just a few minutes after the examination, the patient receives the result on a CD (to find out about other options for collecting the results, click examination results). The digital intraoral scanner that we use in Diagdent is one of the smallest dental scanners on the market. Thanks to the device's small size, scanning is also easy and convenient for children. Intraoral scanning is painless, non-invasive and completely safe for the patient. It does not involve the use of X-rays, so no radiological procedures are required.
How much does a teeth scan cost?
For many years, Diagdent has maintained some of the best prices for diagnostic tests on the market. The current price for a full 3D dental scan is PLN 200. This is the price for a scan of both dental arches. A detailed price list of all tests available at our facilities can be found here.
